With the onset of winter, it is necessary that we adapt our bodies to a different routine. Winter, in fact, is one of the best seasons to force your body into shape. Here are five things that you must do to ensure that winter does not pass you by.
Wake up early
The fact that days are shorter and nights are colder may seem to suggest that the only purpose of winter is to make you sleep more. After all, who doesn’t like a few extra minutes of shut-eye? Try to fall out of this lethargy and wake up early instead. Enjoy your cup of coffee with the nip in the air and plan your day in advance. You will be surprised at productively your day passes.
Bathe in lukewarm water
Whatever you do, avoid the temptation to bathe yourself in scalding hot water in winters. Not only will this adversely affect your skin, it will also leave you prone to flu. Water should be heated only to a lukewarm temperature so that the cold air does not affect your immune system.
Take up an outdoor activity
It is easy to want to tuck in and skip a session of your gym or yoga class. However, winters are one of the best times to make and maintain your body. Your body needs to generate heat to keep away the chill in the air – and what better way than to take up a strenuous physical activity.
Eat more calories per day
Your body tends to burn more fat in an effort to keep your body warm during winter. This extra loss of fat needs to be compensated by eating a little more food than you are used to. You can also make certain dietary changes such as having bajra rotis instead of wheat rotis to compensate. Remember not to overeat though. Moderation is the key.
Dress in layers
Winter is the best time to bring out all your jackets and accessories such as stole and scarfs. While wearing them right is another topic altogether, the key element here is that they must be worn to protect yourself from falling ill. On a related note, ensure that your skin stays moisturized by applying the right cream.
