The Centre is pursuing the matter for constitution of Minorities Commission in the States where they do not exist with the State Governments.
The National Commission for Minorities has informed that the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Sikkim & UTs of Chandigarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep & Puducherry are yet to set up the State Minorities Commission. As regards the State of Tripura, it is stated that the State has passed a Bill in this regard which awaits assent of the President. Further, the NCM Act does not extend to the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
This was stated by Shri Ninong Ering, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Minority Affairs in response to a written question in Lok Sabha yesterday.
