Foster loyalty, transparency, innovation for a better workplace

By Apeksha Kaushik,TimesJobs.com Bureau

Transparency within organisation is important for a healthy workplace culture.

An effective workplace is what both employers and employees look out for. A good workplace encompasses high morale, productivity and lower complaints and commotions. The three key ingredients of a best workplace include, trust and respect, transparency and innovation. While the elements are known and acknowledged, it is important to identify how to formulate these fundamentals.

Driving innovation and passion

Every great innovation and breakthrough begins with passion. An organisation with high acceptance of inventiveness is a breeding ground for fresh ideas and creativity. Further, creative individuals are the need-of-the hour for industries to sustain in the highly competitive business environment. According to Aprameya Radhakrishna, co-founder, TaxiForSure.com, "For a start-up driving passion would mean, a meaningful role, opportunity to make a huge impact, opportunity to grow in the organisation, appropriate rewards and recognition, good colleagues to work with and being able to reach out to the top management with ease."

Building trust and loyalty

The value of trust cannot be overestimated. An organisation with high degree of trust, respect and loyalty observes reduced turnover costs and high retention rates. According to industry experts researches have shown that trust is such a basic requirement that without it an organisation's other employment engagement programmes will not be able to raise employee productivity and commitment, significantly.

Radhakrishna agrees by saying, "How you treat your employees is the biggest factor in building loyalty. One needs to respect and trust their employees." A leader has a very vital role to play in this. "He should be able to competently communicate, influence and organise the cooperation and assistance of other people to accomplish the company's goals and objectives. A good leader always leads by example," he adds.

Job satisfaction also plays a vital role in building trust. "Increasingly, employees are seen to prefer job satisfaction and job security over money in today's times. What we've noticed is that satisfied employees stay longer with the company, resist competitive job offers and recommend the company to others as a good place to work. Growth of role is a bigger motivating factor than money," states Radhakrishna.

Keep it alive and kicking

To build a better work culture, passion, trust, loyalty and inventiveness should be constructed in teams and not in individuals alone, feel experts. According to Vanita Prasad, HR Lead, Analytics Quotient, "A team who is rewarded for performing well together will be motivated to engage more closely, lean on each other's strengths, teach beginners "tricks of the trade" to ensure that everyone performs well, thus benefiting the business in the long run."

Radhakrishna advised organisations to encourage employees to innovate and test their ideas. "Never stop communicating your vision, goals and objectives. Be inclusive and keep it fun, young and simple. Always think of fresh ways to do things," he concludes.
