Book chronicling Madhya Pradesh's postal history released

 Indian Post Services, Madhya Pradesh on Monday released a book documenting the history of postal services in the state. Named "Postal History of Madhya Pradesh", the book was formally released by former chief post master general A P Srivastava at Dak Bhawan.

Appreciating the work, Shrivastav said, "It comprises several historical facets of postal services, including issue of postal stamps on different personalities, flora, fauna and landmarks," said Srivastava.

It also contains elaborate history of princely post services of Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Rajnandgaon, Datia, Dhar and Bijawar state. Post master general Anil Kumar Yadav said, "This brief history tells us how postal services evolved."

Book has data of past 600 years on postal services in central region, he added.

Revealing that a museum showcasing the history of postal services is being built, Yadav said, "We are almost ready with our museum at GPO, which will showcase letters of famous leaders and politicians like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma, Dr B R Ambedkar among others." Evolution in postman's uniform and the transport system used by him will be other attractions, he added.

The upcoming museum will cost around Rs 15, 00,000 and will be completed in next three months. "We are seeking guidance from curators of MP government's museum. We are also requesting people to contribute with their collections," said Yadav.

Additional director general, Press Information Bureau, Dr P J Sudhakar said that postal department's role in nation building and financial growth is commendable. Such books have the value of permanent literature and come handy for researchers, he added.
