UPU Director General Bishar A. Hussein says he is confident that preparations for the next Universal Postal Congress in Turkey are going well.
Hussein was in Istanbul this week to meet with PTT Corp. Director General Kenan Bozgeyik, who will represent Turkey as Congress Chair, as head of the host country.
“Congress is the Olympics of the postal sector,” Hussein explained to journalists at a press conference. “I have full confidence and trust that the UPU and the Turkish Post have the skills, knowledge and leadership required to bring the world together here.”
For his part, Bozgeyik added: “We are meticulously carrying out the preparations to make yet another addition to the international organizations our country has successfully hosted in the recent years.”
Strategy
The UPU director general took the opportunity to comment on the Union’s vision for the next cycle, which will be decided at Congress.
“The principles of innovation, integration and inclusion will form the basis of our vision,” he explained.
“We stress innovation, because we are aware that the world of our day is nothing without innovation. Postal establishments have to reinvent themselves to be able to compete in this very competitive market environment,” Hussein said.
Decisions taken at Congress will form the final Istanbul World Postal Strategy, which shapes the Union’s work plans for the 2017-2020 cycle.
The 26th Universal Postal Congress will take place in Istanbul from 20 September – 7 October of this year. For more information please visit the UPU’s Congress microsite: http://congress2016.upu.int/home/.
