PMO makes salaries of all its officers and staff public

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has made public the monthly remuneration of all its officers and staff as part of proactive disclosure under the Right to Information Act. 

The Secretary to the Prime Minister and IAS officer of the 1983 batch, Bhaskar Khulbe is the highest paid official at the PMO with a monthly salary of Rs 2.01 lakh, as per the PMO statement as on June 1, 2016. Khulbe, who was till recently an Additional Secretary was appointed as Secretary to PM last week. The three other top officials at PMO - Principal Secretary to PM, Nripendra Misra, Additional Principal Secretary P.K. Mishra and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval get paid the same amount -- Rs 1,62,500 per month plus pension since all three of these officials are retired civil servants. The Public Relations Officer at PMO and and old aide of the Prime Minister, J.M. Thakkar is paid Rs 99434 per month plus pension. The Information Officer of PIB posted to the PMO. Sharat Chander takes home Rs 1.26 lakh a month. 

Among the Joint Secretaries, Tarun Bajaj is the highest paid a Rs 177750 while Joint Secretary Anurag Jain is paid Rs 176250 and A.K. Sharma takes home Rs 173250, as per the PMO disclosure. 

The PMO under Manmohan Singh had also made public the salary of all its officials. In 2012, it was then disclosed that then adviser to the Prime Minister TKA Nair, then national security adviser Shiv Shankar Menon, then special envoy S.K. Lambah and then principal secretary to the Prime Minister Pulok Chatterji took home an identical salary of Rs 1.61 lakh, which included a salary of Rs 1.11 lakh and pension of Rs 50000.
