Sachin Pilot Releases Commemorative Stamp on ITBP

Shri Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITBP) Force on 1.10.2012. The India Post is issuing the stamp on the occasion of golden Jubilee of the force. Speaking on the occasion ,the Minister said that he is proud to be a part of the historic event. 

Commemorative Postage Stamps are issued to highlight a country’s achievements in various spheres like science and technology, defence as well as its progress in socio-economic sector. The country’s rich cultural heritage is also showcased through stamps and many beautiful stamps have been issued in thematic sets on art, architecture, crafts, maritime heritage, science, technology, defence, and cinema. Leaders of national and international stature and repute have also been honoured with commemorative stamps. The significant role of ITBPF in the security of our nation is being recognised by issuing this stamp. 

ITBPF was conceived on October 24, 1962 under the CRPF Act in the wake of the Chinese conflict. It has been entrusted with the responsibility of guarding the 3488 km long India – China border from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh, a responsibility which its personnel have discharged with great distinction in the last fifty years. Not only this, ITBPF also provides security to VVIP/VIPs and protects vital installations which include Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Vice President’s House, Parliament House and Raj Bhawan in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. It has played a decisive role in combating militancy in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and the North- East and has now been inducted in Chhattisgarh for anti – Naxal operations. ITBPF also provides security cover to the yatris of Kailash Mansarover Yatra. It has also excelled in UN peace keeping operation. The Force personnel have been deployed for peacekeeping operations in Angola, Namibia, Cambodia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Mozambique and Kosovo. Senior officers of ITBP and India Post attended the function.
