Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday said India's postal network has the potential to drive the economy with its huge assets across the country that must be explored to benefit the common man.
Reflecting on the findings of a task force report on leveraging the post offices network, the prime minister said that post offices in rural India could be used to deliver services and important government information to individual households.
Following discussions on multiple aspects of the report in a meeting attended by Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad and task force chairmanT.S.R. Subramanian, Modi called for a detailed examination of the recommendations in the report within a short time to initiate necessary follow-up actions, said an official release.
Subramanian, a former cabinet secretary, submitted the report to the ministry of communications and information technology in December last year.
