ALLAHABAD: In a letter written to the union Telecommunication minister, Jawed Urfi senior Congress leader and member of Telephone Advisory Committee (TAC) has demanded release of a stamp to commemorate Mahakumbh 2013.
Stating that Kumbh is a historic occasion which would be held on the banks of Sangam from January 14 March 10 this year, Urfi said that sentiments of millions are attached towards this occasion.
Expressing surprise that no stamp has ever been released on the occasion of Kumbh since Independence in 1947, the Congress leader regretted this was despite the fact that Allahabad is the home town of four former prime ministers and several union ministers.
He added that Mauni Amavasya snan at Mahakumbh on February 10 this year would be the ideal occasion to release the stamp and if Congress supremo and UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi was present it would add glitter to the event.
